Multilingual Café

Multilingual Café is a series of events, organized by the Center for Education in Liberal Arts and Sciences, to practice foreign language skills. A main focus is placed on conversation practices. Osaka University students and staff can participate without applying in advance. Multilingual Café, held in Quartier Multilingue at lunchtime during the University terms, is offered in English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, German, and French. There may be opportunities to learn other languages as well, so please check the schedule frequently. We look forward to your participation!

If you wish to receive a one-on-one lesson from a native-speaker English teacher to practice English, need proofreading for your English writing by native speakers, or have a problem with English, whether related to writing, speaking or making a presentation, C.I.A. Language Support Desk is there to help you. A native English teacher will guide you individually to enhance your English proficiency in one of the three sessions of your choice – writing, presentation, and conversation – in a manner that suits your level and needs. Many students are already using this service, so please feel free to contact us.

Students (undergraduate and graduate students) and staff (academic staff, researchers and administrative staff) of Osaka University receive one-on-one guidance to prepare for making presentations in English at international conferences and to write a presentation application in English.

Tandem Project

Tandem learning is a form of collaborative language learning. Pairing up with a partner proficient in the language that one wants to learn, tandem pairs teach and learn each other’s language and culture. This learning style allows you to decide the pace, content and method of learning according to your own needs. If you have any problem concerning your learning, the coordinator will help you sort it out. In each term, workshops and parties are held for participants to share learning methods. Tandem learning is also a great opportunity to make friends with people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Project HELP! is an English mentoring study program (90 mins × 8 times in 3 months) for Mentees (OU students who study English) with Mentors (OU international students with good English skills). The goal is to improve Mentees' IELTS scores, while putting a focus on Speaking and Writing (Pre-requisite for exchange students from OU is a score higher than IELTS 6.0 ). Mentors will be offered a certificate as an excellent mentor if they finish an IELTS seminar by the British Council and 8 mentoring sessions. You can also learn about Japanese culture and participate in exchange with OU students, so we look forward to your applications.
